Looking to take a family camping trip with the kids to central PA and do some fly fishing. Can anyone recommend any good campgrounds/parks near Spruce, Penn's Creek area, etc. Young kids - not looking to rough it too much. Thanks.

The one I know of is Hemlock Acres. It's right in Coburn on Penns Creek, near the junction of Elk and Penns.

They've got a pool, and cabins for rent. It's also a very nice looking campground with lots of mature trees.

Poe Paddy Campground is right over the mountain.

I like state parks a lot. But they don't have the pool and other stuff that your kids might want. On the plus side it is a lot cheaper. And it's right on Penns Creek.

Poe Vally State Park, not far from Poe Paddy has a lake with a swimming area I like Hemlock Acres too, but if Poe is an attractive option, the lake swimming might be a bonus. Poe Valley Also has camping, though I don't know how it compares to Poe Paddy.

I was just about to ask this question. Thinkin of making a "f*** it" trip out to some of those streams out there after my finals are done thursday.

Poe Valley, the park with the lake, is closed right now. I don't know how long it is going to be closed for. You may want to call before you go if this is where you plan on staying.

I stay at Poe Paddy myself, but I only use the place for sleeping purposes. There is nothing there other than the creek.

We just camped at Poe Paddy a couple of weeks ago. Great place for fishing and hiking, it is a little rough for family camping - not much for the kids to do. Poe Valley CG is closed for the summer.

I'm going to suggest the KOA campground off the Bellefonte exit of I 80. It has a pool and activities for the kids. You are 15 minutes from State College and Spring Creek.
