Burlap.JPG

The Burlap Nymph was shown to me 20+ years ago in Washington State as a large Stonefly nymph, it did well. Back on the East coast it went untied for many years, until a half dozen years ago when I began using the same principles but tying it as a smaller bead-head. It worked out well in the East Coast also. Its a naturally buggy, simple pattern that works on both trout and panfish.

I like it. Nice, simple and I am sure effective pattern.

Nice pattern. Sometimes it doesn't take much.

Nice!

Very nice fly!

Nice tie! I will be be trying this.

Have you ever experimented with using the burlap as dubbing?

John, no I have not. I bet it would blend well though?

I'm not sure. I bet it would be pretty buggy looking. I will have to experiment.

Nice fly. Ed Koch in his classic Fishing the Midge had a burlap midge that was just a small blob of burlap on a small hook. IMHO, any fly Ed Koch recommended works well.

Did you ever try changing up the color of the marker, maybe to black or green or anything like that? I think you could probably imitate a pretty wide variety of nymphs with other colors.

I can see why there are so many comments on this video, as the patterns fits the "Keep it simple..." mentality! The one alteration I would consider would be to use some Velcro to pull some fibers out of the thorax section, possibly replicating legs.

Thanks for sharing, as this seems like one worth a try for sure,

TC, You are correct, and I often do. But if not, this material gets buggier with each drift on its own.
