It's been awhile since I have posted one of my paintings on a feather. Here's a new piece - this is an original painting of a trout (1.5") that was done on a feather about 2" in length. These tiny paintings don't always work out, but when they do, I'll tie the feather into a fly and frame it in a shadowbox.

Dave very nice and a clever fly. Love the details. Are your eyes still that good or are you using magnifying glass?

WOW!!

BTW - Is that stocked or wild...? 😉

That is truly amazing. I have trouble tying decent flies let alone doing a feather-painting and adding it to a fly. I could never even dream of doing that. Placed in a shadow box, it would be a wonderful addition to a fly-tying room. It must be nice to have talent.

Awesome work Dave! Thanks for sharing your work, it’s great to see trout artwork and it’s equally impressive to see it combined with a feather on a fly - keep it up!

You sharing this has inspired me to share some more of my fish carvings. I haven’t posted anything in a while and I just made 7 fish over the last two weeks that I will try to post in the next few days.

Thank you for your inspiration!

That fly has me wanting to bring back fedoras so I can attach it to the hatband. My grand pap wore a hat with three salmon flies attached.
The only artistic flies I've seen are green spun deer hair shaped with a razor into a Christmas tree.
