With the cone tied 1/4 way back to spread the materials and make a wide but essentially hollow fly, it looks like it would pulse well and be light and easier to cast.

I'm interested in making it look like a bluegill , adding a double mono loop weed guard and fishing it for LMB.

Just a thought, but if you use a wide gape hook you could use a larger cone without interfering with hooking ability. This may enhance the pulsing and fluttering due to increased turbulent flow behind the cone. If you go this roue, anchoring the cone with a drop of gel super glue may be in order.

I think I'll try that myself. Looks like a cool style, especially for large trout, bass, and toothy critters. :)
 
why even use a cone head, add a second layer of lead, then cover with thread. will have same effect. Or just reverse tie the materials in does the same thing
 
Great pattern, work very well stripped on steelhead.
