A NICE PAIR
Pflueger Sal-Trout 1554 Redux - most people who fish with me know how sentimental I am about my first fly reel - I just picked up an identical reel for an old USA made Fenwick HMG with the same reel seat as my beloved old Fenglass FF756. I got the new 1554 from eBay for $20 shipped. It was in marginal condition despite the description - with a bent spool, monofilament (!) backing and what was once a WF8F fly line. A short disassembly, line removal, basic maintenance, and repair had it looking good. I spooled 50 yards of Gudebrod 30# green dot braided Dacron and attached a 30+ year old Cortland 444SL WF7F line with hand tied leader to complete the project. I now have a perfect compliment to my first rod/reel combination - ALL USA made antique setups that fish as well as ever - hence “a nice pair”.
