I think they are kinda cool. The darker/lighter contrast is nice, and I bet the spiraling will create some great movement-like effects, It would be good to get a bit more of the darker color to show in my relatively uninformed opinion.
 
2-3 dark strands to one light will give a darker color.did a black and gold chenille works well. Have a friend down state who ties and uses them on the delaware for smallies and has taken a few walleyes..

The thicker ones waked on surface work for stripers. kinda like walking the dog with a heddon spook.
