So there has been lots of conversation recently about trout color and pattern variation. It certainly got me thinking about some of the rare ones I’ve caught myself and so I started combing through the photos. Here is what I came up with. Feel free to post your odd looking trout.

The trout in the first photo just looks like it needs more FOOD!

A few years back on Logan Branch, there was a brown, about 12" or so that we called old hunchback. He/she had some kind of a deformity, i.e. a very large pronounced hump on his back. He was also dumber than a box of rocks and could be caught on just about anything, nymph, streamer, dry fly, whatever. I think I caught him about 6-8 times over the course of the season and my fishing buddy probably as many times or even more. Wish I had a picture. . .

I have three interesting ones (I think): The rainbow didn't have lateral pink stripe...just pink dots. The brookie was the darkest I ever caught but had brilliant spotting. The brown...just look at the pattern with yellow belly and dark brown splotches. I've caught a few like that in the same stream.

catch it on the conestoga?

Three different browns that I liked more than others. The white leading edges on the one fish. The middle fish is from a small creek in Iceland. The big fish was a great coloration on a fall migrator.

Weird wild brown. Lots of red spots, even red spots on the dorsal fin.
The cool part is the red spots on the tail. Heck lots of spots on the tail. Spots on the tail seem pretty rare for a brown.
I saw someone comment, somewhere else that spots on the tail mean it’s a rainbow, I respectfully disagree, not always. 😉

These are some of the most intense reds I've seen on an adipose fin of all the wild browns I've caught.

I just can't imagine not having a camera with me while fishing. How would you begin to describe these colors to someone?
I never get tired of looking at trout pics!

Love the really dark, mountain freestoner browns.
