I'll be in Allentown this weekend for a basketball tournament. There's a pretty decent gap between games tomorrow afternoon and was thinking of trying the Little Lehigh. Will it be combat fishing on opening day? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

I remember those days of trying to squeeze in fishing between youth soccer and hoops! It hardly ever worked out. But good luck!

Probably gonna be combat fishing. Will be even worse with how low waters are if they aren't blown with the rain. Tight lines!

It will be crowded for the first 2 hrs, but like almost all stocked trout waters in SE Pa it will clear out substantially between 10-11 AM, and that’s in good weather. If it rains hard, then the clear-out will be substantial beginning about 9:30. If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about the crowding. I would nymph or bait fish the riffles. Most anglers will be pool bound.

Where is the tournament?

I'd head straight for the fly fishing only section. It's easy from there to move up or downstream a bit into the stocked sections.

Edit; I see a basketball tournament on the east side. If that's the case the Jordan is a closer option. If trying the Jordan, I would go to the park off of 6th street.

Maybe I'll see you out on Sunday if you're still in the area!

ROVERT:

Factoring in your time constraints, a BIG positive about fishing Section 08 (lower FFO, former Heritage) section is it is easily fished from the bank so you can park, get set-up and be fishing in a lot less time than fishing elsewhere where wading is required.

Thanks, everyone. The tournament is at Executive Education Academy. On Saturday afternoon I'll have nearly five hours between games. Feeding my constantly hungry son will cut into that a bit.

And FYI - IF you decide to fish the former Little Lehigh Heritage FFO stretch, it will take you 15 - 20 minutes just to drive there...

Where is Becker? (king of Jordan)
Hi

Little Lehigh will be swamped early morning, however, if you can hit it after lunch you will have plenty of space. I like to take my kid to the police training center and fish up and down from there. If you want to hit the Jordan, head up to Wehr's Dam area and park at the walk bridge. Go up and down from there.

That's where I am a teacher. Definitely follow my directions to where to fish the LL above. Won't be a bad drive for you. Another option would be to drive over to the Monacacy.

Police Academy

Dropped you a pin

I work down the road from ya. Hello fellow Educator!

Thanks for the info. It is very helpful. I hadn't considered the Monocacy but I guess that is probably just as close as the LL, maybe closer.

In that case run down Hamilton Street to Yocco's just past 21st street. Then, with chili dogs or cheese steaks in hand, turn down 24th street to Fish Hatchery Road. Make a right and then take the first right down to the parking lot. The old Heritage section is right there.

It's rumored that a little Yocco's chili on a fly improves takes.

Jordan creek behind the Mickley apartments. If you follow the trail up you will get into some decent water. It’s all stocked trout but fishes more like a wild stream. The fish aren’t all holed up.
