My friend and i will be in State College next weekend so we plan on spending a day and a half on Spring. im primarily a nymph guy, what are some of the patterns that can work well this time of year?

scuds, sowbugs, midge larva, small caddis.

plus pale yellow sucker spawn or other similar egg fly and pheasant tails or other sz. 18 slim dark olive nymph.

Be aware, it is Team USA Youth Nationals next weekend. They will be fishing Spring on Sunday. Their beat water will be Fisherman’s Paradise up to the dam.

What happens at these events when people from the general public are fishing where a beat is assigned? Are they asked to leave? Is the area closed to the public?

Not that I would want to be around that area, and would gladly go somewhere else once I realized what was going on, but I am sure it happens.

Nope, you are welcome to fish there. No one will ever ask you to leave. I am just not sure why anyone would want to stumble upon 24 kids fishing in a stretch. It's hard enough for me to want to fish around my own children, let alone 24 other peoples. 🤣

Yes, they are on BFC Saturday in the Narrows.

Take some BWO dries, you might be a nymph guy but the next 4-6 weeks is the easiest dry fly fishing of the year.
