My first fly rod 30 years ago was a New Old Stock South Bend 290 that my dad gave me. The long and short of it is that, due to a few unfortunate events since that time, I no longer have the rod. I'd like to get a time machine and go back and kick my own *** for not taking better care of it. It was an earlier model with the aluminum reel seat, but I understand that's probably pretty hard to come by.

To be honest, I'm not 100% on the details of it other than it was a lighter rod and I think I might have used 4wt line on it.

Now, after getting far too technical for too long, I want to get back to my roots. I'd love to find one in good condition and ideally with the original bag and tube. Willing to pay for a better example. That said, I'd be interested in lessor condition as well and possibly even a project as long as it's all there/not broken.

I just did a quick search on ebay and see a few old models that might bring you back in time.

South Bend 290 Bamboo I don't remember any South Bend 290 Fiberglass rods.

Yep, 290 is a bamboo rod. Mine had 2 tip sections, a fast and I think a medium. One tip section broke and I pretty much shelved it after that. I've been watching ebay too. Just figured I'd try here as well.

I have a South Bend 290 for sale. It has one original and one replacement tip (from another SB rod). Its in decent shape, casts well. I have used a 6wt Triangle Taper line on it with great results. It will cast a 5 wt line as well, but everyone has their own tastes.

I want $175 for the rod. I have the original sock and tube, but its missing the end cap of the tube.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks

Jesse

100% interested. Pm'd you.

You may want to try the site below. The 290 is a great rod, usually a 5 or 6 weight. In very good condition with both tips and tube, they can go between $225 to $325. Good Luck!
