Not sure it's really a fly reel just a guess by looking
My guess is if you click back on the reel handle it will disengage the drag. Maybe its a multiplier retrieve too.

Hmm. I guess I'll try that. Thanks Moon!

I think the Wright McGill Fre-Line reel is a spinning reel and the early ones were made in Boulder CO in the early 1950s on what I found online.

my dad's favorite PA trout reel
to use, Reverse handle one-half turn to free the line, cast and just wind it to retrieve.

He used it with 6lb high viz mono, on a 7 foot fiberglass fly rod with minnows or bait. He caught more trout on that rig than you can imagine.
I still have a couple of these reels in the the basement as they broke often.

Wow Chrome Finder, They were like a Cult Reel. Seems to me, since I actively fish my collection, that I may want to label this reel a "novelty" and display it and move on. While fly fishing I greatly prefer a clicker this reel is way too nuanced and confusing. I think that for someone who started on a sidewinder it would eventually come more easily in time.
Thanks for all the help and also the links.

yep, I've only tried it with mono and he only used mono with it as well.
