Found in China also in Viet Nam. This is a large insect but doesn't care for polluted. CNN article says pollution will cause the insect to locate another stream or body of water.

Holy crap. I read an article about that but someplace, and read that it had like an 8 inch wingspan or something. Didn't really appreciate just how big that is until I saw the picture you posted with somebody's hand in it for reference.
 
That is definitely related to the Dobsonfly that we have here....Dobsonflies are scary as hell...I can't imagine a bigger and meaner version. lol
 
Looks more like some type of dragon fly to me, a Dobson fly looks more like a stone fly or salmon fly.
