Lately I have been tying a lot of big streamers, buying materials for big streamers and experimenting with pattern configurations.

I'm really liking the configuration of articulated streamers using an articulated shank trailed by a single wide gape egg hook.
Anyone else tie flies like this and what is your experience with hook up ratio and keeping fished hooked using this style?
Thoughts appreciated.

I've not tried this, although I suppose it would work. Many of the big tube style steelhead flies use a system like this.

I prefer to use spin gear hooks designed for soft plastics for my large, articulated streamers. In my experience, you definitely want a hook near the rear for large trout streamers. Personally, I like to use the trail fly to hold materials as well and a bit more shank length works better.

I'll try doing that also Dave.

These hooks I have are a size 6 and large enough to hold some material also.
I dig the articulated shanks.
