I frequently fish the Susky between Towanda and Berwick for smallies. I was thinking about trying for musky in that area. I own a Sage Payload 8+ WT that I could use, but it seems a bit small for musky.

I'm looking at rods under $400 in the 10 to 11 WT (450 - 500 gr) range.

Question: Which rod would be the "best" tool for musky in the rivers around my area?

I would stick in the 10-12 wt range.
I have a Chippewa 12 wt rod you could try, and it is in your price range. I am looking to get rid of it as I have too many 12s.
Another company would be Whulf Rods. I fished one the other week and liked it.

Thanks, Stiff12.

I'm leaning towards the Echo Musky in the 8;8" 11 WT model. I like the compact design for its low swing weight. I will be fishing out of a raft or wading, so I don't think I need the extra length of a 9'+ rod.

This guy is true to his name, lol

I use a 10wt works great. You might not think you need a 9ft but I would get one 9 or around 10 to help swing those big flies around and also helps stick the tip in the water for those figure 8s. My problem is I got a cheap fly line on it so my leader breaks the fly line on those monsters so don’t cheap out on the line.
