Wader Idea

I was out fishing yesterday and I met a guy on the stream and we got talking. Really nice guy, by the way. As we were walking along I noticed he was wearing pants and not waders (or so I thought). I said to him that I could not believe he was wet wading in November. He laughed and said I have waders on underneath these pants. He told me he does it because it helps avoid thorns and punctures and gives him plenty of pockets to pick up trash along the stream. I never even thought about it but love the idea. Does anyone here do that? If so, how do you like it and does it help keep your waders from leaks?

I've certainly never seen anyone do that before.
And, while I guess it would help protect waders - I don't think it would be very practical.
The pants would have to be quite large to fit over waders.
And when they get wet, it would add a lot of weight and bulk I'm sure. Making things very cumbersome, and probably dangerous for deep wading

sounds like an awful idea

instead of a chance encounter in a very small area (brush or branchs)
wet abrasive material constanly rubbing on the entire wader

so much for your DWR coating, breathability, and seams

Excellent points. I suppose he could only do it on small streams where he spends alot of time out of the water. Thanks for that feedback.
