A friend of mine has a fly box with 2 trays plus two sides so four surfaces with flies. Does anyone recognize this type of fly box? Is it worth anything?

I have more photos if you need them.

From the photos it looks like a custom or home crafted box, with all those flies I imagine that it would be worth at least $100

Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like basic joinery, inexpensive hardware, a very rudimentary handle but it's square and tight. I agree it was homemade by a hobbyist. As for value, who knows. With that said, i like it's unpretentious utilitarian style. Very cool.

The wood, at least on the lid, appears to be sapele, a tropical African wood. It's pretty common in the US. today I've used it to make jewelry boxes. But I've also seen a lot of sapele veneered conference room & corporate furniture, so it's not a rare wood.

From what I can see the flies appear to be older wet flies. It would make a nice gift to one of the organizations that takes veterans out fly fishing or give it to Casting for Recovery.
