UV or not UV

That is the question. What is the importance of sub reactivity in your flies (should it be in all of them or just certain ones) and when buying material online how do I know if it is going to be UV reactive? Had 2 flies given to me that worked really well. Lost one on a nice fish and I am trying to duplicate the other one. I have it perfectly duplicated except the green dubbing in the gifted one reacts and the ones I’ve made do not. Thoughts?

UV is something I don't fully buy into...yet! I listened to a podcast from Tom Rosenbauer of Orvis, and his guest spoke briefly about its importance, at least in younger trout. Highly recommend: http://orvisffguide.libsyn.com/the-behavioral-neurology-of-trout-with-dr-russ-carpenter

From talking with some fly fishing professionals that produce their own dubbing, the application of UV is fairly simple and straightforward, so it definitely falls into the "why not" category, but when I'm thinking about a new product, the "UV" sticker is not a must-have.

Just more hype. If I liked the color and the price I would buy UV and use it like anything else with no intentions or desires of tying UV flies. I'm not buying just because it has the UV sticker on it and generally speaking A UV sticker would be an instant turn off to me since I don't buy into hype.

Fly guys have been catching fish using staple fly's that have been tied for decades. UV.....RV......MVP.....whatever. I'm going fishing.

Is it just me or does the before picture NOT have a UV light shining on the flies? Can't really tell if it's the spray producing that effect or not if the before picture doesn't have uv light shining on it. The flies are already using fluorescent looking materials....

One more thing:

If flies are reflecting true UV, we won't be able to see it. Fluorescence, while a reaction to certain wavelengths of light is not the same as reflecting wavelengths of UV which we cannot see. So a fly that is truly reflecting UV (that we hope the fish can see) will be difficult for us to identify as such.

One more one more thing:

Since we can't see it, how do we know our regular materials aren't already correctly matching fish food items in terms of UV light?
