took an 8x10 pic of a big brownie I caught and set a light up over it. Now I had to resize them to get them to work on here so I think it goofed up the pixles but I think they turned out ok.

Cool idea but honestly think it makes it hard to see some of the details on your flies, especially the darker ones. I prefer photos with just a very light blue or grey background - something that allows the focus to be on the fly, not the background.

Have to agree with McSneek. It's a cool idea, but the background makes it difficult to see the details of your flies.

And your ties are good, which makes us want to see the details.

your flies blend into the background losing details

needs differt lighting to eliminate the shadows

unless thats the look you were going for

A larger more colorful fly, eg Mikey Finn, that does not blend into the background would work better.

You could do both by placing a lt. blue or gray card (or beige to better match the trout) behind the fly only. That way you'll get the contrast and the cool fish effect. You could do this more seamlessly with photo editing software by taking 2 separate photos and blending them.

BTW: I love the idea of what you are going for! I think your challenge is as much with lighting (shadows) as it is with background.
