Holy smokes Rick. I thought I was bad. LOL. New Years day is my start of the countdown to the Hendricksons and the March Browns. I'm chomping at the bit just like you.

I have been tying some up and thinking about one of my favorite hatches.

When caught just right, it can be as good as any hatch you'll ever see. The fish are coming off a winter of less pressure and seen to cooperate a little better.

March browns aren't as impressive in numbers but get the fish's attention. Violent takes or chasing flies for 6'-8' feet. Probably my fav but the Hendrickson is right there.

See what mother nature has to say. Could be going early March like the other year or May 5th. Let's hope for some snowpack in the mountains so we get a nice long runoff.

Glad to see I'm not the only one anxiously awaiting the March Browns. I've been tying them up all afternoon.

Here's a really good article I found on the Hendrickson hatch:

Based on the long range spring forecast (above normal temps in March, much above normal temps in April and May), we could see them on time to a little earlier than normal this year .....if the forecast is correct. Won't be long now!!

Checked out the Mar-May LT forecasts:

I saw them Friday, also, and if you think I'm telling you (and eveyone else lurking on this forum) "where", you're nuts!
Oh, and the fish were on them.

;)

Hendricksons on March 27!

Have you ever seen them that early before? Or even earlier?

Hendrickson

Yes, but 2012 was really a freakish anomaly.

Or so I thought.

But maybe freakish anomalies are becoming the new norm.

I remember fishing them on penns creek in march of 2012. Had to be the last weekend of the month.
And I also recall fishing the grannoms on the little j a week earlier that same year - which had to be the third weekend of march, I guess.

But that was a very unusual year. The whole winter was very mild.
And we had a whole week of air temps in the 80's in mid march

So the heat is on me now. Like Tony, not spilling all the beans but will say to look in streams South of I-80 that have Hendrickson hatches. Yes, thats the south half of the state. Lol. Small / colder streams like Clarks still require a bit more warming up for the hatch to get rolling strong.

Hendricksons all over on Lycoming this afternoon.
