For a couple bucks (albiris) I found the paperback reprint of the 1951 Atherton book. Atherton was an artist, who believed that flies ought to be impressionistic. Much of the book is dated, of course, but Atherton was a keen observer. More than once he used the word "selective" to describe trout, so I guess S/R didn't totally coin that term in reference to trout. The book is mostly how-to material for the time, though I enjoyed the anecdotes Atherton included. Sadly, he died one year after the book was published. If you can find it for a couple bucks, it is well worth the money. (I paid more for shipping than for the book.)
