Requesting help for subject line above.

Recent research for Casselman & Yough
had me looking thru several Map Apps ( onX, BaseMap, GAIA, GURU)

I thought it was gonna b an easy task.

I know I can view the " white water riffles" in Satellite view.

But, that does not apply to all.

Pls help educate my frustration.

ThankU

For river flow direction, usgs topo maps show that. Stream/river flow direction is out of the “u” created wherever a contour line intersects a stream or river. Can access the topo map on the PGC web page mapping section.

You can also look at the angle at which tribs enter the mainstem for a quick hint. You can do this from virtually any map/imagery.

As Mike says above, the contour lines on a topo map will give you a sure answer.

On Acmemapper.com you can switch between street, topo, and satellite maps.

Water runs downhill. With a little practice with topo maps you can quickly figure it out.

If you look at a river that crosses a 1000 ft elevation line and also crosses a 900 ft elevation line, the direction of flow is from the 1000 ft line towards the 900 ft line.

Are you just looking for streams that flow north? The Genessee River flows north.

Look at the contour lines. The contours will always point upstream where they cross the stream.

You're curious about rivers that flow north?

I've seen some material seemingly alluding to that as being kinda rare.
And have wondered why.

There are plenty that do of course.
It's all about the elevation
