Hi. My night vision is not what it once was. So even at like 8:30 pm this time of year I have trouble seeing a rusty spinner from any reasonable distance.
Let me know if you have suggestions for patterns or materials for higher visibility spinner patterns.
I have thought of tying parachute style dries and using a white or hi vis color post and trimming the parachute hackle to more resemble spinner wings.
Well let me know if you have suggestions. Thank you.

I tie a parachute fly as my spinner pattern all the time.

I often trim the hackle fore and aft to represent the wings and use a white or hi-vis color post.

I use hackle one size bigger than one would use on a Catskill tie (e.g. a size 12 hackle for a size 14 fly).

I trim down the post a bit, but leave enough sticking up for better visibility (by me) on the drift.

Below is a video I found someone tying a spinner pretty much the same way I describe above.

HTH.

I use a simple hackled fly for spinners these days - just tail, body, wound hackle. May cut vee in bottom of hackle so it sits up right and for 18 and below don't use a tail if I don't feel like tying one in. I have also started using white hackle for evening and it has really helped. Also once it gets dark I go to a size 12 for easier visibility.
