So i fished pickering today after that heavy rain yesterday. The creek is nicely flowing. Alot of the trout have moved. Which i guess is a good thing, theyre not bunched up in schools anymore. But the odd thing is, the creek is FILLED with suckers. Ive never seen them there before, and not in this amount in such a small stream. Alot of them were actually holding where the schools of trout WERE holding. In pockets, Cuts and current. Here are some pics.

Those two fish in the first pic look more like trout than suckers, but it may just be the lighting. I swear I can see spots on the backs of those fish.

you sure? they were more like this im pretty sure http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/soc204/plazad/native4/zachary/Zach%20&%20Pernell%20webpage_files/image012.jpg

well from what i can make out in the pics, it looks like a carp or two.

Ok well then, Carp, why?

Okay, those are carp, and I'm really going to look like a fish weenie for knowing this answer. -- Carp build up gases in their gut as a result of changes in the temperature of ambient water. Therefore, the have a harder time hitting the deck, so to speak. The gases the build up in their midsection makes them more active (and I'd imagine more irritable). This happens in trout too, but not to the same extent. A bunch of tests were done on this subject in Europe in the '60s. People had the same reaction to the sudden appearance of carp as Mute. Secondly, marine endocrinologists also suggest that changes in water temperature also change the hormonal balance in carp. Therefore, they become more active. Ok, I'm a fish weenie. You'll also see this behavior in big goldfish in ornamental ponds. Yep, I'm a great big fish nerd.

So the sudden rise in water level made them all come out from their hiding place? I haven't seen a single one for the past 2 weeks then today BAM, its like they were stocked over night.

Mute,
I was there on Monday and saw tons of them. Way more than the trout I saw.

A article in a British journal actually suggests that this build up of gas affects their bouyancy. Weird!

The first pic the only fish I see is a big brown. I don't know how any of you can tell anything about the fish in the other photo.

put on your polarized glasses

No browns chaz, theyre all carp. I was a few feet away, but hard to get viewable pics, look at the bigger resolutions.
