I hate to see summer time striper fishery become non-viable but more so I have concern for the species. One interesting thing would be if, as the article suggests, climate based fishing restrictions for stripers could divert anglers towards harvesting off some of their invasive threats, Blue Cats.

Note: That summer fishery is primarily for male stripers, as it is in the Delaware Estuary too.

As for directing anglers to an alternative fish species that is present in good numbers and is a relatively new, unwanted invasive species, that’s appropriate management in the form of fishery promotion.

People say their delicious flakey fillets, never tried it yet

How many Blue cats you reckon your average angler could remove at those insane densities where they make up 75% biomass? Gotta mobilize every able bodied man woman and child who can operate a zebco

Catfishing is a lot of fun. I used to do it a lot. I just went out the other night and slammed some. Only channels though.... but one was pushing 10 lb.

A Zebco is definitely a poor choice for blue cats.... But you used it for stereotypical reasons methinks.

Dear Fish Sticks,

If you are going fishing for Blue cats with a Zebco it better be an 808 loaded with 30# braid, at a minimum. They are some serious fish and can grow to be in excess of 100 pounds. A Penn 309 with 30# mono would be a better choice, just sayin'. 😉

Tim Murphy 🙂

The reason i said Zebco is because I was picturing everything able body man woman and child who not all would have fishing background or training but uea ya might get spooled
