Hi All-
Hoping to get some referrals for a house rental in the State College area for this coming mid-May. Approx 8 fly fishermen on the trip. Long weekend - say, 4 nights. Looking for something rental-wise that keeps us within an hour's drive of Penns, Fishing, Spring, LJ, Spruce creeks. Ideally a single home with sleeping for 8+. Trying to avoid the campground concept.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Peter

Make sure that you don't plan your trip for the Weekend of the 6th, 7th, and 8th. That's when spring graduation is for Penn State. A lot of places will be rented out to parents of graduating students.

I'm sure that you can find house rentals in State College if you search air bnb, or you could do a google search for weekend house rentals.

VRBO (vacation rental by owner) has some that might work
My wife and I use VRBO a lot with good results

We stayed at a few properties we found at http://www.statecations.com (back when it was known as Rest and Repast). Might be something there that can accommodate 8. I heartily agree with avoiding graduation weekend. You will be hard pressed to find a room.

Check out the campground at 7 Mountains. They have small cabins that might work.

This doesn't quite fit your description, but I'll put this up anyways since I was planning on starting to advertise this fairly soon on here, but we are in the process of completing a cabin for a rental of various kinds. It is in Mifflin County on a farm setting with the Juniata River a short walk away. It is also within an hour of every stream you mention except for fishing creek and has our local Miff Co streams very, very close by. It would probably only sleep 4 or 5 comfortably, but still. I throw some pictures up later today.

There are some cabins at the bottom of Tussey Mountain ski resort. They are large, clean and well equipped including a nice kitchen and dishwasher. You might have to rent 2 for your group.

The Guesthouse at Long Meadow is in Loganton. It's a nice setting, but a little out of the way, maybe 15 minutes from State College. I think it can handle eight. You should be able to find their website.

madifly,

Check your PM.

There's quite a bit of this kind of thing in the State College area.

As far as being in "reach" of your streams, you're end points are BFC and LJR, which are over an hour apart. A reasonable middle ground is gonna be in the Pine Grove Mills/Boalsburg/Tusseyville/Centre Hall area. S or SE of State College. Or, give up one of the end points.

7 Mountains has cabins of various niceties, including 1 or 2 that are basically houses, and is an ideal central location to the streams mentioned. It's a "campground" concept, though.

Here are two upscale ones from VRBO (less upscale ones are generally smaller)

This one looks fancy, but pricy. Location is great for BFC, Penns, and Spring, but it's a haul over to Spruce and the LJR. $875/night for a 2 night stay. Not really that crazy if you got 8+ guys, considering the place is over 5000 sq. ft. and very fancy.

This says it's on BFC, but really, it looks like LFC based on the map location, lol. Still, it's a short hop to BFC and Spring, not that bad to Penns, though LJR and Spruce may be out of range.

There's also the Feathered Hook, yes, the fly shop in Coburn which also runs a nice B&B. I believe they have a larger one for groups of 5ish and a few smaller rooms. Likely filled in May, though.

Just some options. These are weighted more towards the Penns/BFC side. Didn't find a ton on the LJR/Spruce side.

I have stayed here, it's nice. Not sure if you'll be able to squeeze 8:
