Here's something i learned to do on my own that really helps with the look and action of my Catskill style dry flies , i stack the hackle fibers for the tails in a spent .22 short brass casing , being careful to trim the fibers off the hackle stem with scissors as opposed to stripping them off. If you strip them off the butts will stick together and they wont stack properly. This makes for a nice , straight , stiff tail , the best hackle fibers for this application come from "Spade" hackle , long , stiff n straight fibers , stacked up. Try this you'll like how your flies look when you do this although it takes a little extra time and effort it's worth it. Please let me know if you try it and what you think?
