In the small areas of Spruce Creek I can fish, I never encounter vegetation. Why? What are your thoughts?

If you are referring to rooted plants like watercress and elodea, the great majority of PA stream mileage does not have these.

These plants are found mostly in very low gradient streams, and especially in spring creeks, where the base flow is pretty stable.

In streams with slightly steeper gradients and flashy flows, the water flows fast enough at some times of the year to simply rip such vegetation out and carry it downstream.

Spruce Creek is a spring creek and its gradient is modest. But its gradient is still much steeper than the Letort.
