Lefty himself said that a Bendback was the best weedless fly. I hate bending hooks and don't like the results.

There are OWNER weedless jigs with hooks that have a long, straight section and then bend up in-line with the eye. These look perfect for larger, weedless LMB streamers

I have tried to use some off-set bass worm hooks, but the straight part of the shank that is in-line with the hook point doesn't provide much room for tying on material. I've done experimenting with unsatisfactory results.

Anyone know how a 'civilian' can get ahold of some of these hooks? I don't see how they are commonly available.

I'm not sure what type hook you are looking for, but Owner sells plain hooks as well as jig heads.

Mustad 79666 Keel Hook

The hook from the Owner Sled Head would be perfect. Longer than what I'd want, but better than what I've found. And better than what I made. The bends of mine just don't seem to be as big and open as I'd like.

Get the stainless steel Mustads in either 34007 or 34011 (long shank). They bend well and are what folks always used to use for bendback patterns.

If any of you have watched my snakehead video you have seen the salad I fish in, so I have played around with bendbacks and worm hooks a bit . If you use the worm hooks try not to use one were the L bend at the eye isn't as pronounced unless its completely covered by material if not it will snag allot off weeds . long shanks hook are preferred for bendbacks but I have had success with bigger sized B10s

I have some of these Mustad 79666 Keel Hook around. If that is what you are looking for, PM me and I will see what sizes I have.

I have tied many of bendbacks. I say bend the hook. The trick is not to bend them too far. Just enough to add the head of the fly. It only needs to be a slight bend. And its not a sharp bend very subtle

How about some pics of a manually bent hook please?

I've tied some bendbacks on an Ahrex NS150. No need to bend them since they already have the correct shape. The only problem is size 4 is largest size available. It's fine for bass and i've seen them used for bonefish, but you might want something a little more stout if you're fishing for striper, etc.
