I'm really digging the rafia (Swiss straw) for scud backs. Found in Mike Heck's book on the "Simple shrimp" fly. I then run a little "Fusion" epoxy across the back.

Look good sandfly, love the first one. Question for you guys, how do you taper a scud body, and are they generally tied with the head of the scud at the eye of the hook or other way around?

I taper the under body (lead, thread, etc.) you can tie them either way.
