My son is headed to Lovettsville, VA and is thinking of heading to PA for some fishing. Recommendations on rivers/creeks in Southern PA would be appreciated. Think he'd prefer trout but smallies would do in a pinch. Thx for any direction.

Any of the Cumberland Valley limestone streams are pretty reasonable drive from there -- Big Spring, Falling Spring, Letort, Yellow Breeches, etc (and Beaver Creek in Maryland.)

If smallies are his thing, he doesn't need to go any further than the Potomac.

I believe if he fishes the Potomac from Harper's Ferry and downstream, he does not need a MD license so long as he is in the water or on the VA shore. Double check to be sure. Obviously needs a VA license in that case.

Not any fantastic trout fishing close by. Maybe call Beaver Creek Fly Shop/Precision on conditions on the Maryland Creeks. If he has a whole day the Savage River in Maryland is over 2 hours away but well worth the drive. For local fishing I would fish the Potomac or Shenandoah for Smallmouth.
