I had my kids on Saturday so my wife could have a day off from being a mom, and Sunday got the go ahead that I could go fishing. I had about 2 hours to work with. I was hoping that the water temps were still up a little from the recent warm spell. The thermometer in the car had 25 degrees as I left.

Picked up the fish on a copper and brown LL hares ear, black LL and black bead pheasant tail, The rest were caught on my peeping caddis pattern. I honestly use that garbage fly more than any other and it always finds itself somewhere on my rig. LOL

I didn't have any split shot so before I went out I tied up some monster sized peeping caddis in size 8 streamer hooks for anchor flies. I found one of the cases and took a side by side of it. One of the browns hit is and I lost another on the big one.

Was nice to get out for my average of 2 hours a week, and was really nice to catch a nice mix of wild and what look to be a couple hold overs as well.

I have changed my mindset on wild fish from about 4 years ago. Now I would rather catch 8-12" wilds all day, over a couple big stockies. Funny how that works.

and to clarify on the leaves on the fish, some how my net got full of leaves and debri. No fish were harmed or set on the ground. ;)

I was more worried about the leaves.
The fish slime on them hinders the decaying process.;-)

Was that you who just put vids up on FB in the PA FF group? Nice fish Mike.

I'm more concerned about that fish in your profile picture :-D

Yep Fly guy that was me on the facebook page. I don't show my face on here if I can. Im too ugly for PAFF LOL

Nice ones mike. I'm gona have to get over there and catch some of your fish soon instead of making the trips to the J and Penns. Hahaha. I've been back after another big ones lately though so have been neglecting the little guys and our local waters. Those peeking caddis imiations always fish good, I have never tied any that big though.

Welldone!! GG

i like that peeping caddis. what do you use for the case part? Pheasant tail?

I like using turkey tail as it has a bit more barring and brown and black transitions to it. Plus it has a bit more length than pheasant tail so it is easier to work with.

You can dub them as well just like a walts work with ribbing if desired.

I have found that turkey tail, and grey squirrel body fur are the two best body choices for these, but have tied them in olive, tank, dark brown dubbings as well. Biggest thing is just getting them close to what the cases look like in that stream.

Looks like you had some fun. You were clearly punting those fish that's how they got covered in leaves :).

Looks like a great day! I have yet to try fishing a peeping caddis. I see them posted all the time here, and I certainly find enough cased caddis while turning over rocks. Might have to sit down for a tying session sometime soon, since I haven't done any tying in a few months.

Is that actually a peeking mop fly?????

I dont think so. I believe he uses chenille for the peeking portion of the fly.

Yeah, my attempt at humor didn't really work when the imogee turned into ????? Nice work Mike.

I don't want to be the dumb one here ....... but, what does the LL stand for? I'm new to this sport. Only been fly fishing since 1975. :-?

Lively Legs and its relatively new to fly tying.

Okay. I've seen some LL videos on YouTube. Thanks for not making fun of me.

I'd never use Lively Legs; too much like bait fishing.
