When I was a kid back in the 40's and 50's I lived a quarter mile from white clay--we would look to see what color the creek was on any day-bright red, blue, green or whatever depending on the dyes the Newark mills released..the river was so polluted the only live thing in it were the kids dumb enough to swim in it...they started to clean it up in the 50's ...slowly the catfish, carp, suckers started to move in and later in the 60's we would catch rainbow trout coming out of Pike and Mill creek headed downstream...I moved away ,so glad to hear it's what it should have been all along..a beautiful creek coming out of the Piedmont plateau ..I use to imagine what it could have been..
