Please don't register and make your first post a list of items for sale. This is a fly fishing discussion site first and foremost, and not a FFing ebay site.
We have a host of very knowledgeable regular members that participate on here and share a wealth of FFing info. Many of these members are in the flyfishing business as guides, fly shop owners, book authors, etc., and each of these regular members honor our no selling or advertising policy on PAFF, and have for years.
If you are a member and participate regularly on here and are looking to sell your used fishing pole or reel or FFing tackle, you are welcome to start a thread and post it on the swap forum.
Again, out of respect for all the members, no one will be allowed to use the site for the purpose of listing items or services for sale, either privately or commercially.
Below are the list rules and guidelines set up by Dave Kile, the site owner, for listing and selling FFing items on PAFF:
Rules and Guidelines for Swap Forum Posts:
1. The Swap Forum is intended for regular message board participants to offer for sale or trade items of unwanted fly fishing equipment. Flyshops, dealers and other professional or semi-professional traders are welcome to purchase advertising on the site, but please do not use the swap forum.
2. This forum is provided as a courtesy to our members and the site owner reserves the right to delete any post or thread at his sole discretion.
3. Also, the site owner and moderators are not responsible for transactions between members. Therefore, buyers are advised to conduct business at their own risk. Neither the site owner nor the moderators will referee any dispute regarding sales initiated from the forum.
4. All items offered for sale should be related to fly fishing. Some leeway may be allowed for sales of items indirectly related to fly fishing, such as, for instance, camping equipment, or outdoor clothing or accessories. As a contrary example, a car is not an approprite sale item just because you can use it to drive to a river. Again, the site owner reserves the right to delete posts or threads in his sole discretion.
5. The purpose of PA Fly Fishing is to provide a forum for the exchange of fly fishing information and not to provide an outlet for dealers, collectors and hobbyists to sale their wares. Therefore, consistent with the board owner's reservation of rights to delete posts and threads according to his sole discretion, if the site owner judges that a member's sole or primary purpose for joining the site is to sell items in the Swap forum, such member's account will be deleted and post removed without warning or recourse.
6. Paid advertisers will be permitted to post a couple of times a month about special promotions and offers.
For Sellers:
1. Be clear and honest about what you are offering.
2. State an asking price for the goods. If trades are sought, give the reader some idea what you are seeking in terms of value. Public negotiations within the thread is discouraged. Try to take such discussions off the board with e-mail or using the Personal Message function.
3. The Swap Forum is not an auction site. If you want to find a high bidder, please use an auction site.
4. It is not permitted to merely advertise the fact that an items is offered for sale or auction elsewhere. In other words, the forum is not to be used to direct readers' attentions to another site where the item is for sale, such as eBay or CraigsList.
For Buyers:
1. Protect yourself at all times. Neither the Site Owner or Moderators have any responsibility to screen offers, sellers, etc., nor will either become involved in disputes regarding the sale or offer.
2. Avoid negotiations within the thread.
3. Asking questions about the item publicly is acceptable and may help other potential buyers, but use the Private Message function to discuss details of a contemplated transaction.
