I'm looking to get a couple scandi heads and a running line for my 5wt switch rod. If anyone has experience with them, how many grains should I be looking at?

what rod?
what brand of line do you like?
since nothing is uniform, there can be a variation.

you'll only need one scandi head ... poly leaders you will need a "couple"

rod is a Redington CPX, brand of line doesn't matter much. Airflow seems to have a good selection at a decent price, so I'll probably start there. I've had the rod for a while now, but have been using a regular WF line doing little more than taking advantage of the extra reach and line speed I can generate to throw nymphs and streamers.

I figured a couple heads, one floating and one sinking... or is that what the poly leaders are for?

i'd say like 275... on a guess... + or _
search speypages... i'm sure someone with that rod
make sure you are looking for a "switch scandi" not a full spey length head

beulah makes a switch version of the elixir... head or full line... its nice
rio makes a "switch" line... never fished
SA makes a scandi at like 280 in 31'... i have a heavier one... nice

Thanks Ramcatt. Looks like I can gain some good info from that forum.

I sent you a PM Bam

Go to rio's website. They have a chart for different rod manufactures and different head Styes and weights. I found it to be very helpful

Check that out. It's got your rod on there with different line options. A good place to start but as the top of the file states, a lot of this is based on personal preference for the 'best' line for your rod.

Good resource though.
