Message sent to the LJRA:

Request for volunteers for 2012 projects.

Message to LJRA members and friends.

We will be doing 3 more bank stabilization projects this year. The scheduled dates are Monday 7-30-12 , through Thursday 8-2-12. The location of the work sites is near Pinecroft on the upper Little Juniata River. After these projects are completed an additional 1000’ of badly eroded banks will have been fixed and we will have taken yet another bite out of the “j” mud.

It will take a minimum of 8 volunteers each day to assist the PA Fish and Boat and the contractor with constructing the devices. This work ranges from carrying tools and equipment to hand driving rebar.

Also we will need 5 volunteers, for a few hours, to plant and water 190 potted trees (the planting effort is suitable for a youth group or adults with physical limitations). We plan to have a skid steer with an auger to drill holes. We will also sow seed and cover with straw after each device is completed.

Follow up plant watering teams will be needed to keep new plants thriving through the heat of summer until the fall rains come.

Lunch, gloves and safety equipment will be provided for all participants.

We will soon have an on-line scheduling feature in place, where you can sign up for a specific day or days.

volunteers are badly needed for this project.
A requirement to receive matching funds is the participation of a certain number of volunteers to help complete the project.
Please consider volunteering a morning or afternoon.
