Does anyone know where to get some decent Ruffed Grouse tail feathers at a reasonable price? Or a alternative material for tying a breadcrust fly?

Most fly shops have them. Yard sales, antique shops are good places to stumble on them.. road kills are good bet or if you know a small game hunter.

Dont pay top dollar for what alot of folks throw away.

Tip. Split your tail feather with exacto knife. Clear out the pith inside and soak feather in hair conditioner over night before tying. They can be brittle and stuff to tie with.

Maybe partridge tail, which is often included with a whole skin. If you're looking specifically for grouse, check Veniards.

i bought mine on ebay

These folks are often worth a try for less common materials, whether fur or feathers. Their inventories seem to fluctuate quite a bit depending on what you're looking for.

Right now, they seem to have a lot of ruffed grouse though..

On edit; They are often pretty expensive as well in general as they mostly deal in full skins or hides. Sometimes, the prices are not too bad though, as currently seems to be the case with the grouse.
