Gonna be taking the boat out for the first time tomorrow on Lake Arthur, Butler County. Was going to take a fly rod with me also, I have a 5 wt and an 8 wt, which would you recommend for bass?

Both... and / or either.

If I had just one, I'd take the 8.

If you are throwing bigger flies and / or fishing around the weeds, the 8 is definitely the way to go. You might get into stripers or toothy critters too... and the backbone of the 8 would be useful there. 8 could help if the wind picks up, also.

If you are fishing open water with smaller flies, a 5 could be enough.

The 8WT.

As David said, take 'em both if you have space. Rig the 5WT with nymphs and an indicator and use it for sunfish if the bass aren't cooperating in a particular spot.

Thanks for the replies
