I bought a bamboo that needs some work so that I could "get my hands dirty."
For those who build your own rods or do refinishing, where are some good places to get supplies. For this particular rod, I would need a stripping guide, a few additional snake guides, thread, and glue/ varnish.
Thanks
David

David, I will try to find the links to the website where I picked up stuff but you are more than welcome to use the stuff I still have lying around. I may even have some guides if you want t look through it before buy more. RyanH used the stuff to redo a rod he picked up at a Jam a couple years ago.

the links jack gave you are some of mine as well. I remember buy much from Schoff tackle. Here are some more.

David, when I messed with rod building a few years back, I had to mail order most everything. Here are a few places I recall shopping:

I may have to take you up on that Tom...thanks for the offer!

David,

Call Dan at dancraft.

I had some questions about components, and ended up discussing my entire order with him over the phone. He managed to put a package of stuff together for me, and we negotiated a price. It was overall a good experience.

Give him a ring and let him know what you're lookin for. He should be able to work with you to meet your needs.

David,

I have a video of refinishing old bamboo rods if you want to barrow (more than welcome). What do you need the glue for (is the rod delimantaed)? If so, you may want to undo the strips and re-glue. If that is the case let me know?

mudhole.com is a good one

David,
It was nice getting to meet you last night at the Sports show. Thanks for stopping by.
I have refinished several bamboo rods. Check out Golden which was suggested by JoeE already. They are specialists in bamboo supplies. Wrap in silk thread. Pearsalls silk is the best you can find. Gossamer is very very thin and looks the best but is a little harder to work with. The naples in a little thicker(still thin) and is what I would advise for you to start with. Finish with a nice oil based spar varnish 2-3 coats and dip finish the entire rod in the varnish. I use Man-O-War Spar. E-mail me when you are ready for that step so I can explain.
Good Luck!

Good Luck!

Paul,
Great meeting you as well. That rod in your avatar is the one I immediately fell in love with, isn't it!

For those in the market for a new rod, onebyonerods.com does some phenomenal work. Beautiful rods with very nice features (I like the guides that pop back into shape if they are smashed...I'm rough on my equipment!) They are nice guys that will design a rod specifically for your type of fishing.

Thanks for the advice, and I will call on you when I get to the dipping point!

jay , did u build a rod yet ?
i never have but been contemplating it

I have done it before, and I am doing the dan craft rod in a few weeks.

anglers workshop is good too.

David,
Thank you for the kind words! Yes the picture in my avatar is the rod you saw at the show. I have had it for years now and it is maybe my favorite rod. That rod saw a lot of interest at the show.

Everyone has suggested good places to find supplies. Anglers is one of my favorites. I still think Golden witch is the place for you because your interest is specific to bamboo in this case. They have the most unique bamboo specific product offering that I have ever seen including some old stock for restorations.
