I've built a couple of rods already but the store I got my parts from does not carry what I want in the colors/style I am looking for. I was wondering if a few of you guys who build your own rods could point me toward some other shops.

Thanks

John

Dear kierkan,

I've yet to build a rod, but I do get all the catalogs.

In no particular order here are a couple of places to try.

Hook & Hackle

Shoff Tackle

REC

These are my go-to sources. I haven't had a bad experience with any of them and order from each several times a year.

As much as I hate to pay the multiple S&H fees, I usually end up buying from several sources for each project. Between these four companies, I almost always find what I need/want and at a decent price.

I use J Stockard as well as the others mentioned. Fast shipping. Good customer service.

Most of my rod building supplies come from:

Cabelas
Mud Hole
Hook & Hackle

While I'm not sure if this is still true, some of the basics (guides, reel seats etc) used to be available at Fly Fisher's Paradise in State College.

I suggest Utmost Enterprises for all Batson and Pac Bay products.

Fantastic service, and they are in the same location as the warehouses for both companies === No back orders.

Thanks guys, I am going to bookmark all these store as the recent addition of a large leak in waders will likely put this project on the back burner. At least I will have more time to really pick out the parts I want.

to whom it may concern,

my friend is a local builder and has done quite well with the business. What started as a hobby now has him in the rod building den rather than fishing most weekends. Visit his site and contact him... a very nice guy who would be willing to point some fingers that could save you bucks in the long run:
