That's exactly the reason why I maintain a simple list of the rods I own, their length and line weight and what they are made of, along with the reel I use with that rod and what it weighs empty (typically from the manufacturer's specs).

Having that information makes it a piece of cake to pick a reel for a new rod, knowing it will balance where I want it to.
