My wife and I were lucky enough to visit the South of France last week for our 40th wedding anniversary. Our second stop was at a country farmhouse. As the owner showed us around the farm we crossed a small river. I asked what it was called. She said it was the Sorgue. Of course I didn’t bring my fly rod.

Petrarch wrote about the river when his father took the family to Avignon during the Babylonian Captivity. Looks like an enchanting place. I always worked fishing and geography into my Presentations in my AP European History class. I have not made it to the south of France yet (Only a daytrip into the Pyrenees). That area will certainly be on my must-see list if I can pry my wife away from the beaches.

We joke that to our kids English is a second language.
