I wonder if he had been bitten previously.

I know guys, not very bright guys, who have been bitten at these "snake round-ups" so many times that the anti-venom won't work on them any more.

Their next bite will probably be fatal.
 
What's also interesting, is that it only took about 5 hours until he died from the bite. I've always read that it takes many hours even days after until a snakebite victim will be in the fatal zone if he/she doesn't get anti-venoms. He must of got bit with a full dose of venom, terrible.
 
he died of anaphylactic shock- he was allergic to the venom/antivenom. Just as people can die from eating peanuts, bee stings etc.
A very rare but real event.
The reaction could have came from the snake venom or anti venom.
