Has the PFBC ever given any serious thought toward educating the general angling public about wild trout streams and how to best manage them in order to provide angling for those truly interested in the sport? I mean folks like those who frequent this board and see trout fishing as something more than filling their creels. Many fish from spring thru late fall and some hardy souls (I'm not one of them.) even thru the winter. Why is most of the PFBC's effort (and money) geared toward 'casual' trout anglers who go out just on the First Day, or a couple of days each spring, typically after a visitation by the stock truck? Is this really justifiable in this day and age and time of very short budgets?
The cost-benefits and environmental sense that halting stocking in streams with self-sustaining wild trout populations are enormous. This doesn't mean stop stocking everywhere, but simply redirect hatchery trout to Class E streams, ponds and lakes. Let Mother Nature take care of the rest. She's been at it for millions of years and has pretty much perfected the process.
