I was looking at driving up and having a 5 days up there - but was wondering what the steelhead fishing would be like then in early May ? - some sites say its the peak, others that the runs finish 'late spring'.

I was thinking of basing myself near Baldwin and fishing the upper FFO and maybe a day on the muskegon and/or manistee and unless the fishings incredibly hot, i thought perhaps a 1/2 day on the Ausable for trout on the "holy' water...

cheers

Mark.

In my experiences up there that may be a bit late in the year for Steel. Every year is different, though. If you do go up there that time of year there may also be some good trout fishing to be had...

okay, thanks.

Fished the PM for the first time about this time last year. It is a beautiful and rural area. The water is very tannic and in deeper spots it's hard to see if fish are holding. The soil is essentially sand which I guess makes the water quasi spring fed. Definitely different than PA. There are a lot of holds along and under banks and around snags.

I would give Jeff Hubbard a call he is the owner of Outfitters North.
Jeff can tell you what to expect in May.

Have you fished the PM? Do you have a boat? Are you going to hire a guide?

I can answer some questions. If you need help let me know

The first thing you need to plan on is getting a BARSKI BURGER

I second Barski's... awesome place in a downhome kind of way.
