For all you tiers out there I thought I would share this with you. Many years ago I read Art Flicks Streamside guide. I believe it was he who mentioned placing peacock tails in a south window to "bleach". Well I just placed 4 large fronds in a vase ( my wife uses them as decoration until next year) and removed those placed n there last year.
The sun bleaches the herl a beautiful bronze color. Excellent for isonychia (zug bug or prince) and I also use it for coachman wet and Jap beetles.
It becomes a little more frail probably about 80? original strength but as I use it on nymphs and wets I put a drop of super glue on hook before wrapping and counter wrap with thread or wire.
If you have a feather or 2 try it. Makes outstanding flies with a twist from the standard peacock green. You will have to wait a few month for the results but worth it.
