For anyone interested, there's a good article on tying parachutes in the most recent Fly Fisherman. Basically, the author recommends using synthetic post material, tied in as spent spinner wings. The wings are then pinched and wrapped to form the post, which avoids the bulked up abdomens other methods create. Better yet, it looks really easy.

I've used the same technique for some time. It makes a very stiff post that's easy to hackle. Use a little less material to form the post than you would to form spinner wings. As with most things when tying... a little goes a long way.
