A little back ground, I previously viewed vests and chest packs as all being the same and didn't understand why someone would buy an expensive vest when one could be found at Wal-Mart for $20.00.
After using these cheap vests for more than 10 years and getting endless back aches and unorganized tackle I decided that I would try a more expensive vest. One that had a place for lots of boxes and terminal tackle as well as a place to hold a beverage.
I searched the web and researched many products ranging from Simms G3 Guide Vest all the way down to Water Mark satchels. After taking a quick trip to Ridley creek and fishing with my old cheap vest and getting a back ache I decided to stop by The Sporting Gentleman to see if they had a vest/pack that I liked. I tried many different ones and decided on the Orvis Safe Passage. I loaded up the vest that night and found that the pack held 8 boxes. 3 large boxes and 5 medium/small boxes as well as 3 spools of tippet and a number of leaders and I also had room in the back for a snack, an extra reel, and 2 spools. and the feature I found to be the most convenient was the hydration bladder. I had water at my side at all times and I never had to stop to take the bottle of water out of the annoying back pocket!
I fished Hopewell lake on Saturday morning and was wading the banks. I fished the entire lake and spent about 8 hours on the water I never once had a back ache. I didn't run out of water as the pack holds 2 liters and I had all the gear I could have ever needed.
I was also impressed with the ability to adjust the height on the pack on my shoulders and the tightness of the pack around my chest. Even with the pack fully loaded it was light and non-obstructive.
All in all Orvis comes through with another great product and I would highly recommend this pack to anyone in the market!
Hope this review helps
