I fish a local municipal pond that is well stocked with trout. It also has Sunny's, Bass, and Carp, but I fish for the trout. They have stocked it with sizes ranging from 12" to 25+" bruisers! It's easy to access and just plain fun. I toss all I get back, but it's a fish with whatever you want and keep 'em if you like.
The interesting thing that I've found is every trout I've caught....my fly has orange material tied into it. A para-post Red Quill with the post being orange.....a size 18 bead-head tied with white mink-fur dubbing, orange stripe, dun tail, and copper wire wrap.....Bead head pheasant tail with an orange hot-spot collar. Orange thread wrapped for body with a soft hackle and 2-3 wraps of peacock.
I've tied on many other styles, sizes and colors......but orange seems to be the preferred menu item!!
Just posting this to see if there is any scientific reason for this? Thoughts?
