Orange Heron Spey Fly (Salmon/Steelhead)
One of the most famous Syd Glasso patterns that he used especially for winter Steelhead in the Pacific Northwest.
The trick is not to tie the wing flat on top of the hook but to tie the feathers a bit on the sides to form a wider wing. It will have more movement in water and lift the hook better in the current.
This is also a pattern for the Fly Fishers International Gold Fly Tying Skill Award
Materials
Hook: Partridge Single Low Water Hook Model N size 2
Thread: Red 8/0
Tag: Flat Silver Tinsel
Rib: Oval and Flat Silver Tinsel
Body: 1/2 Orange Floss, 1/2 Orange Seal Fur Substitute
Body Hackle: Blue Ear Pheasant
Hackle: Teal
Wing: 2 Pair Ewing Orange Hen Neck Hackles
Head: Solarez Bone Dry
