There is currently a survey going on in Pennsylvania where citizens can participate in. I figured as much as we are all out on the streams we could maybe help out with it. Take a peak at this article, and then there is another link provided to the website where you can upload your photo and enter in information on the animals location and environmental information. Anyway, sounded pretty cool and thought I would share.

Thanks for sharing. I tend to do more field herping at this time of year due to temps.

No problem SteveG. I'm always seeing frogs and salamanders when I'm out. Gives me a reason to snap a photo of them. According to that article, there will be multiple professionals that will check out each entry and verify identification and stuff.

Anyway, glad to share.

Hey, this is awesome! I went to school with the president of the Mid-Atlantic Center for Herps and Conservation, Brandon Ruhe, this is exactly what he was doing 10 years ago just not on such an official scale.
Great article and program for anyone who is out there in the environment seeing these critters.

That PARS site is pretty cool. Some really good photos too. Helpful in identifying critters even if you don’t have a national geographic quality photo. Just for fun I searched for Sistrurus catenatus records. Endangered, it’s only been found in Butler & Venango counties. Guess that’s why they don’t give GPS coordinates on the internet! :-o

That rattlesnake is pretty terrifying looking. Especially considering I fish up that way a good bit. Didn't realize rattlers lived in Butler County.
